DARI & D.H. Griffin Wrecking have teamed up to perform the asbestos abatement, and removal of 27 structures as part of the Charlotte Douglass International Airport RAMP A Expansion Project.

The 27 structures consist of primarily rental car companies; such as, Budget, Hertz, and Enterprise. DARI will complete the pre-demo abatement by next week, and the Wrecking division will be on-site over the next month tearing down the old structures.  A majority of the demolished materials will be recycled.

The DARI portion of the project is being  managed by Jeff Feeley and overseen by James McGee of DARI’s Charlotte division.

D. H. Griffin Wrecking has been contracted by Kiewit Infrastructures South Company to perform the fast track demolition of (8) I-40 bridges as part of the TN Dept. of Transportation’s Fast Fix Eight campaign in Nashville, TN. The Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner is overseeing a major bridge rehabilitation project along Interstate 40 in downtown Nashville. The “Fast Fix 8” project is using accelerated construction to replace eight bridges located on the westside of the south loop. The project will require 13 weekend closures of this stretch of I-40 through June 2016.

Built in 1968, the twin eastbound and westbound bridges show advanced signs of deterioration and require near constant maintenance.

“These bridges are prime examples of aging infrastructure, and they are long overdue for major work,” said TDOT Commissioner John Schroer. “By using accelerated construction methods, we will greatly reduce the time a project like this would normally take and will ensure these bridges can continue safely carrying the some 140,000 vehicles that use this stretch of I-40 each day.”

The rehabilitation project will reconstruct the eight bridges using an innovative process known as Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC). ABC speeds up construction and repair of highways and bridges by allowing short-term, total road or bridge closures to allow crews the space to do their jobs and the ability to work around the clock. This dramatically reduces the time to complete a project and the long-term inconvenience to motorists.

To watch a time-lapse video of this project, please click here.   In this video, DHG begins demolition at 8:00 p.m. immediately after the bridge closes and is complete by sunrise the following day. This time-lapse video shows a 48-hour weekend of work for the demolition and reconstruction of one bridge.

Congratulations to Greensboro Division Manager, Chris Walker and his team for a successful abatement for longtime client, Duke Energy. In September of 2013, DARI- Demolition & Asbestos Removal Inc. was subcontracted to provide the abatement of a 340-MW power plant which included coal fired steam generating units and oil fired combustion turbine units, and ancillary facilities in Eden, North Carolina. Work included boiler, duct, and piping insulation; transite removal; roofing and caulking removal. DARI also removed NORM contaminated refractory from the boilers. Demo work included Boilers, CT Units, Turbines, Coal Yard Structures and Conveyor System, Selective Railroad Rail, Raw Water Storage Tank & Fuel Tank Abatement. This project called for tight environmental controls to ensure safe work along the Dan River. Walker, Project Manager, Harrison Hubard, and Project Supervisor, Lester Rivenbark, were successfully able to complete the rather difficult abatement in a safe and timely manner. Abatement was completed in November 2014. DARI will return to the site to do windows and gaskets when they are ready to demo the plant. D.H. Griffin Wrecking Inc. will continue to be on the site until Jan. 2016.

Stay tuned for updates….

BOOM! Success! On June 1, 2014 DHGW was able to successfully implode the eleven-story Appalachian State University dorm, Winkler Hall, to rubble! DARI was contracted by the University to provide asbestos removal of entire 42,000 square feet of structure to prepare it for implosive demolition. DARI- Demolition & Asbestos Removal Inc., removed approximately 34,125 square feet of floor tile and mastic, 41,200 square feet ceiling surfacing, 52,875 square feet of joint compound/sheetrock and several hundred feet of asbestos containing thermal system insulation from piping throughout the structure. Most of the strip-out work on this project was done by DARI. DARI performed the majority of the strip-out work prior to abatement including desks, doors, drop ceilings, ect. DARI also removed bulk and ballasts, and universal wastes throughout the building during the strip-out process as well. 104 tons of ACM was removed, along with 13 tons of scrap metal, and 12 tons of C&D debris. Congratulations to Hickory Division Manager, Foyle Perkins, Project Manager, Nick Perkins, and Asbestos Supervisor, Mateo Adame for a job well done! Now the former residence hall site provides temporary green space for students after 96% of the debris has been recycled!

Football season is over, but the work to improve Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina is just beginning. Last month, DARI- Demolition & Asbestos Removal Inc. was contracted to perform various updates to the venue. See below, pictures of the carpet removal, window removal, mold remediation, and weather proofing for the stadium’s luxury suites. In the beginning, the project scope was estimated to take about (4) weeks.  However, due to the experience and expertise of DARI’s Charlotte division manager, Jeff Feely and Project Manager, James McGee, the complex project was finished a full (2) weeks ahead of schedule.  And the luxury suites at the Carolina Panthers stadium are looking better than ever!  As proud Carolina Panthers fans, DARI is always happy to help the longtime client.  Go Panthers!
